SouthCoast Spring Arts events scheduled around Wareham

The SouthCoast Spring Arts festival is a collection of arts and cultural events from across the region. While events are planned everywhere from Fall River to Wareham, there’s plenty to do without leaving town.

For a complete list of events, go to southcoastspringarts.org/2022.

May 6 to May 8: Paint your own mug at the Onset Clay Room. Swing by 1 West Central Ave in Onset to paint a mug. Prices range from $10 to $15. For more, go to onsetclayroom.com.

May 6 to May 15: See work by local artists. The Wareham Bourne Art Association will host an opening reception for their show at the Wareham Free Library, 59 Marion Rd., from 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday, May 6. The show will be available to view during regular library hours.

May 6 to May 15: Make a mini universe in a bottle. ECHO Elizabeth and Company Home Offerings, 5 Elm St., will help visitors create tiny worlds inside bottles. Small, clear bottles and some treasures to fill them with will be included, but artists can bring their own if they please. The activity costs $15, and proceeds will be split between ECHO and the Onset Bay Association. ECHO is open from 12 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

May 7 and May 14: Meet local artisans. At 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 7 and May 14, meet local artists at the Onset Bay Trading Company Gallery on East at 2B East Blvd. Meet artists and browse the art on display and for sale.

May 7: Browse at Seakers. At 11 a.m., swing by Seakers at 3065 Cranberry Highway for an open gallery day. Repurposed and upcycled furniture is featured alongside handcrafted goods.

May 8: Try watercolor. Beginning at noon, watch watercolor demonstrations at ECHO and join in to create small paintings inspired by nature. This workshop is free, although donations for materials are accepted. Participants can stop by briefly or stay for the duration.

May 11: Share a hidden talent. The 1883 Lounge at the Glen Cove Hotel will be hosting its first open mic night at 7 p.m. All arts are welcome at this free event: music, poets and spoken word, etc.

May 12: Make shell art. ECHO at 5 Elm St. will host a shell art workshop at 6 p.m. Materials included. Light refreshments will be served at this BYOB event. Tickets cost $25.

May 13: Paint a mini landscape. At noon, head to ECHO at 5 Elm St. to create several small semi-abstract landscape paintings and learn some watercolor painting techniques. This class costs $20, materials included.

May 13-15: Make mosaic art. Stop by The Onset Clay Room to make mosaic art for $20. Those ages 21 and up may bring their own beverages.

May 14: Explore the Onset Bay Center. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., come to the Onset Bay Center at 186 Onset Ave. — on the beach by the pier — for its Community Day. Inside the center, learn about its conservation work, enjoy refreshments and look at art by local artists. A number of free activities will be held throughout the day: Join instructors on sail boats, take out a kayak or paddle board out to explore the bay or learn about kayak safety and transportation. For kids, there will be a Story Walk along the beach and a free art activity with Dianne’s Art Farm.

May 14: 10 AM - Spinney Memorial Library, 259 Onset Avenue, Onset: Our friend and Onset historian, Len Gay, will be showcasing his extensive collection of antique and vintage photos and postcards of Onset and Wareham.

There will also be a mini art show provided by the Bourne Wareham Art Association’s Timothy J. Foley, acrylic artist. One of a kind originals inspired by nature, enhanced in rescued and restored vintage frames. In essence, a perfect match of old art and new, to enjoy every day.

FREE

On rainy days: See disappearing sidewalk art. Public works of art have been installed on sidewalks around town — but you can only see them on rainy days. When the weather is right, take a look near the Onset Bay Association, Seakers, Echo, Onset Bay Trading Company/Gallery on East, Wareham Free Library, Spinney Memorial Library, Trevor's, The Onset Clay Room, Glen Cove Hotel/1883 Lounge and the Onset Bay Center.
